How the class is structured.

  • Compulsory warm up & stretch: This is treated as a high priority and must always be done before the class begins. Breakin’ is like any other professional dance, or art form so preparation should be done in the same way.
  • Level split: The class is then split into different groups depending on the level of the student. The longer the student has been coming to the classes and the further the student has progressed, the higher level they are likely to be. The complete beginners and first time students are then put in to their own group as with intermediate students and the more advance students being in their own level groups. The class is very well structured having the beginners in one group nearer the entrance of the studio while the higher level students are in groups more to the far end of the hall.
  • Teaching and progression: Students are always taught first how important the foundation are ie; toprock & uprock and to flow with the beat. Certain conditioning are also introduced and advised to the new students for the purpose of helping them to build the strength they will need to perform more power requiring moves in the future. Students progression are also monitored very carefully too to see when it is appropriate to move them up to the next level.
  • Rest break: A short break is given to the students just so they get a chance to relax and have a talk to the teachers or the other students, although a lot of the student’s idea of having a break is quite literally having a break on the floor, free styling and practicing what they have learnt so far by taking up any available space there is.
  • Open circle: After the short break and a little while more of the teaching, we have an open circle. This is not however a popularity contest, merely an opportunity for the students to get a little experience of what a real open circle either at a jam, or battle is like. It’s also a chance for the students to practice using what they have learnt in the circle.

The things that I would say that makes my classes different from other classes is the passion that I have about teaching. Having people learn and learn correctly is very important to me. Being able to pass on the knowledge over to students who have very little or no dance experience.

The classes are very structured and students are encouraged to go through the very basics of breaking before trying to leap forward to the more difficult & fancy looking moves. There are different levels in the class for the students that have been coming regularly and have managed to progress to a higher level of this wonderful art form. It is also very important to me that students always feel welcome and have fun in the class.

The classes are for both male & females regardless of their age or background. - Vitamin
